Endergonic

Endergonic means a reaction that requires energy to happen.

In simple terms:

  • "Endo-" means in

  • "Ergon" means energy or work

  • So, endergonic = energy goes in

Example:

  • Photosynthesis is an endergonic process. Plants absorb sunlight energy to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water.

  • You have to put energy in for the reaction to work.

Key point:

  • Endergonic reactions are not spontaneous.

  • They have a positive ΔG (change in free energy), meaning the products have more energy than the reactants.

✅ So, if a reaction needs energy to happen = endergonic
